Dashboard Coach Mode

Dashboard Coach is the second mode of the Research AI Panel. It is designed specifically for the dashboard experience, helping you understand your metrics and take action on what matters most.

How to Access Dashboard Coach

1. Navigate to your dashboard at /dashboard.
2. Open the Research AI Panel by clicking the AI icon in the navigation bar.
3. Select the Dashboard tab at the top of the panel.

Dashboard Coach mode is available whenever you are on the dashboard. On other pages, the panel defaults to Research Chat mode.

What Dashboard Coach Provides

Dashboard Coach analyzes the data visible on your current dashboard and provides three types of assistance:

Metric explanations -- Each dashboard widget tracks different aspects of your research activity. Dashboard Coach can explain what a metric means, how it is calculated, and what constitutes a healthy value for your role. For example, it might explain that your publication rate is above the median for your career stage, or that a project's completion percentage factors in both milestones and deliverables.

Trend insights -- When your dashboard shows changes over time, Dashboard Coach highlights notable trends. It might point out that your grant submission rate has increased over the past quarter, or that student progress in your lab has plateaued. These observations help you spot patterns you might otherwise miss.

Suggested actions -- Based on your current data, Dashboard Coach recommends concrete next steps. These might include following up on a stalled project, preparing for an upcoming grant deadline, or reviewing a student's milestone that is overdue. Suggestions are prioritized by urgency and impact.

Persona-Adaptive Insights

Because AcaTrove dashboards are persona-adaptive, Dashboard Coach tailors its insights to your role:

• Professors and PIs receive insights about lab productivity, grant pipeline health, and student mentoring progress.
• Graduate students see guidance on thesis milestones, publication targets, and advisor meeting preparation.
• Postdocs get career trajectory analysis, publication velocity, and job market timing suggestions.
• Administrators receive institutional metrics explanations and compliance status summaries.

Changing Your Dashboard View

Dashboard Coach includes a quick link to Settings where you can change your primary dashboard persona. If you hold multiple roles, switching your dashboard view also changes the insights Dashboard Coach provides.

Limitations

Dashboard Coach operates on the data currently displayed on your dashboard. It does not access raw database records or perform new analyses. If your dashboard data is loading or unavailable, Dashboard Coach will indicate that it cannot provide insights until the data is ready.

Tips

• Check Dashboard Coach at the start of each week for a quick summary of what needs your attention.
• If a metric seems confusing, switch to Dashboard Coach and ask what it represents. The explanation is tailored to your persona.
• Use the suggested actions as a starting point for your daily planning. Each action links to the relevant page in AcaTrove where you can take the recommended step.
