Creating Your Account

Setting up a AcaTrove account takes less than two minutes. You can sign up using your ORCID iD, a social provider, or a traditional email and password combination.

Sign-Up Options

AcaTrove supports several authentication methods so you can use whichever is most convenient for your institution:

  • ORCID (recommended) -- Sign in with your ORCID iD. This is the preferred method for researchers because it automatically imports your publications, grants, and profile information.
  • Google -- Use your Google account, including Google Workspace accounts provided by your institution.
  • GitHub -- Convenient if you already use GitHub for code, data, or collaboration.
  • Azure AD -- Sign in through your institution's Microsoft Azure Active Directory, common at many universities.
  • LinkedIn -- Connect with your LinkedIn professional profile.
  • Email and password -- Create a standalone account with any email address.

Step-by-Step: Signing Up with ORCID

  1. Navigate to acatrove.com and click Get Started or Sign In.
  2. On the login page, click the Sign in with ORCID button.
  3. You will be redirected to the ORCID authorization page. Log in to your ORCID account if prompted.
  4. Review the permissions AcaTrove is requesting and click Authorize.
  5. You will be returned to AcaTrove, and your account is created. Your ORCID profile data (name, affiliation, publications) will begin importing in the background.

Step-by-Step: Signing Up with Email

  1. Navigate to acatrove.com and click Get Started.
  2. Click Sign up with email.
  3. Enter your name, institutional email address, and a strong password.
  4. Click Create Account.
  5. Check your inbox for a verification email. Click the confirmation link to activate your account.
  6. Return to AcaTrove and sign in with your new credentials.

If you do not receive the verification email within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder. You can also click Resend verification email on the login page.

Choosing an Authentication Method

If your institution uses Azure AD or Google Workspace, signing in with that provider links your AcaTrove account to your institutional identity. This can simplify access management if your department adopts AcaTrove at the team or enterprise level.

For researchers, ORCID is strongly recommended. It is the standard persistent identifier in scholarly communication, and connecting it during sign-up means your publications and grants are available immediately.

Account Security

  • Passwords must be at least 8 characters and should include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • OAuth accounts (ORCID, Google, GitHub, Azure AD, LinkedIn) rely on the security of the upstream provider. Enable two-factor authentication on those accounts for the strongest protection.
  • You can link multiple authentication methods to a single AcaTrove account after sign-up from your account settings.

Tips

  • If you already have an ORCID iD, use it to sign up. You will skip most of the manual profile setup.
  • Institutional email addresses make it easier for your department to manage team subscriptions later.
  • You can change your authentication method or add additional providers at any time from Settings > Account.
