Professional Assistant Overview
An introduction to AcaTrove's Professional Assistant for AI-powered career document preparation.
Professional Assistant Overview
The Professional Assistant is AcaTrove's AI-powered workspace for preparing and refining academic career documents. It complements the Career Hub by providing tools that analyze, assemble, and improve the materials you need for job applications, promotion cases, and professional reviews.
What the Professional Assistant Does
The Professional Assistant is accessible from the Career section in the sidebar at /professional-assistant. It provides three primary capabilities:
Application Packet Creation -- Assemble complete application packages by selecting and ordering your career documents. Combine your CV, cover letters, research statements, teaching philosophies, and recommendation letters into a single exportable packet tailored to a specific position. See Creating Packets for details.
CV Review -- Submit your CV for AI-powered analysis that checks for formatting consistency, identifies potential conflicts or gaps in your record, and suggests improvements based on the norms of your field. See CV Review for details.
Profile Import -- Pull in your professional data from external sources such as ORCID and LinkedIn. Imported data populates your AcaTrove career profile and saves you from re-entering information that already exists elsewhere. See Profile Import for details.
How It Works with the Career Hub
The Professional Assistant and Career Hub are designed to work together:
- Career Hub is where you manage your CV data, track jobs, and write statements.
- Professional Assistant is where you review, refine, and package those materials.
For example, you might draft a research statement in the Career Hub, then use the Professional Assistant to review your CV for consistency with that statement, and finally assemble both into an application packet.
Who Should Use the Professional Assistant
The Professional Assistant is valuable for anyone preparing academic career documents:
- Graduate students entering the job market for the first time who want AI feedback on their materials before sharing them with advisors.
- Postdoctoral researchers assembling multiple application packets simultaneously for different types of positions.
- Professors preparing promotion or tenure dossiers, or applying for named chairs and leadership roles.
Getting Started
- Navigate to /professional-assistant from the sidebar.
- If you have not yet uploaded a CV, the assistant will prompt you to do so. Your CV data is required for most features.
- Choose the tool you need: create a packet, review your CV, or import a profile.
Tips
- Import your ORCID profile before using CV Review. The review tool can cross-reference your CV against your ORCID record to identify discrepancies.
- Application packets can be exported as PDF, making them ready to submit through any application portal.
- The Professional Assistant uses the same AI infrastructure as AcaTrove's research tools, so feedback is informed by academic norms and conventions.
