Profile Import
How to import your professional profile from ORCID, LinkedIn, and other sources into AcaTrove.
Profile Import
AcaTrove can import your professional data from external platforms so you do not have to re-enter information that already exists elsewhere. Profile Import pulls in publications, positions, education history, and other career data from sources like ORCID and LinkedIn, and maps them into your AcaTrove career profile.
Supported Import Sources
ORCID -- AcaTrove's primary import source. ORCID provides structured data about your publications, employment history, education, grants, and peer review activities. Because ORCID data is researcher-maintained and widely used in academia, it produces the most reliable imports.
LinkedIn -- Import your professional experience, education, and skills. LinkedIn imports are useful for capturing industry positions, certifications, and professional affiliations that may not appear in your ORCID record.
Additional import sources may be added over time. Check the import screen for the current list of available connections.
Importing from ORCID
To import your ORCID data:
- Navigate to /professional-assistant and select Profile Import.
- Click Connect ORCID. If you have already linked your ORCID iD in Settings, this step is skipped.
- Authorize AcaTrove to read your ORCID record. You will be redirected to the ORCID website to grant permission.
- Once connected, AcaTrove retrieves your profile data and displays a preview of what will be imported.
- Review the imported data. Each item (publication, position, degree) is shown with a checkbox so you can include or exclude specific entries.
- Click Import Selected to add the data to your career profile.
Importing from LinkedIn
To import from LinkedIn:
- Navigate to /professional-assistant and select Profile Import.
- Click Import from LinkedIn.
- Follow the instructions to export your LinkedIn data (LinkedIn provides a data export feature in its Privacy settings). Upload the exported file to AcaTrove.
- Review the parsed data and select the items you want to import.
- Click Import Selected.
Handling Duplicates
When imported data overlaps with information already in your AcaTrove profile, the system flags potential duplicates. For each duplicate, you can:
- Keep existing -- Retain your current AcaTrove entry and discard the import.
- Replace -- Overwrite your current entry with the imported version.
- Keep both -- Add the imported entry alongside the existing one (useful if they represent distinct items that appear similar).
Re-syncing Your Profile
You can re-import data at any time to pick up changes you have made to your external profiles. AcaTrove remembers which items were previously imported and only presents new or modified entries for review.
Tips
- Import your ORCID profile as your first step in AcaTrove. It populates your career profile quickly and provides the data needed for CV Review and Grant Finder match scoring.
- After importing, review the data in your Career Hub to correct any formatting differences between the source platform and AcaTrove's conventions.
- ORCID imports include DOIs for publications, which AcaTrove uses to link imported records with full-text documents you upload later.
- Keep your ORCID profile up to date. Periodic re-syncs ensure your AcaTrove career profile stays current without manual entry.
