Understanding Your Dashboard
How AcaTrove adapts your dashboard to your academic role and what each widget shows.
Understanding Your Dashboard
Your Dashboard is the first thing you see when you sign in to AcaTrove. It provides a personalized overview of your research activities, upcoming deadlines, and quick actions -- all adapted to your academic role.
Persona-Adaptive Layout
During onboarding, you selected your primary role. AcaTrove uses this to determine which widgets, metrics, and quick actions appear on your Dashboard. Here is what each persona sees:
Professor / Principal Investigator
- Lab Overview -- Active members, recent submissions, and pending reviews.
- Publication Pipeline -- Papers in progress, under review, and recently published.
- Grant Deadlines -- Upcoming funding deadlines and active awards.
- Student Progress -- Milestones and task completion across your advisees.
- Quick Actions -- Create project, review submission, schedule meeting.
Graduate Student
- My Tasks -- Active tasks across all projects, sorted by deadline.
- Reading Queue -- Papers and documents flagged for review.
- Writing Progress -- Word counts and milestones for active drafts.
- Advisor Updates -- Recent feedback and comments from your advisor.
- Quick Actions -- Upload document, start writing session, log research hours.
Postdoctoral Researcher
- Active Projects -- Status of current research projects and collaborations.
- Publication Tracker -- Manuscripts in various stages of the submission cycle.
- Career Milestones -- Goals, upcoming deadlines, and professional development items.
- Collaboration Requests -- Pending invitations and shared project activity.
- Quick Actions -- Create project, find grants, update CV.
Administrator
- Departmental Metrics -- Research output, grant activity, and headcount summaries.
- Budget Overview -- Active budgets, spending trends, and upcoming renewals.
- Compliance Items -- IRB submissions, ethics reviews, and pending approvals.
- Recent Activity -- A feed of notable actions across the department.
- Quick Actions -- Generate report, manage users, review budgets.
Other Roles
Specialized roles such as IRB Board Member, Grant Office Staff, Librarian, Department Chair, Development Officer, and Dean each receive a dashboard tailored to their specific responsibilities. For example, a Librarian sees collection management and research support requests, while a Dean sees high-level institutional research metrics.
Dashboard Widgets
Each widget on the Dashboard is interactive:
- Click a widget title to navigate to the full view of that section (for example, clicking "Publication Pipeline" takes you to the Publications page).
- Click individual items within a widget to go directly to that project, document, or task.
- Hover over charts and metrics to see detailed breakdowns and tooltips.
Quick Actions Bar
At the top of the Dashboard, a row of quick action buttons provides one-click access to your most common tasks. These buttons change based on your role, but typically include actions like creating a new project, uploading a document, or opening the AI Writing Assistant.
Customizing Your Dashboard
While the Dashboard layout is determined by your persona, you have some control over what appears:
- Reorder widgets by dragging them to your preferred position.
- Collapse widgets you check less frequently to reduce visual clutter.
- Change your persona from Settings > Profile to switch to a different dashboard layout entirely.
Tips
- Check your Dashboard at the start of each work session to see what needs attention. The persona-adaptive design surfaces the most urgent items first.
- If your role changes (for example, from graduate student to postdoc), update your persona in Settings to get a dashboard that matches your new responsibilities.
- Use the quick actions bar to reduce the number of clicks for tasks you perform daily.
- Widgets that show deadlines use color coding: items due within 48 hours are highlighted to draw your attention.
