Dean Dashboard
The Dean dashboard provides a broad, cross-departmental perspective on your school or college's research enterprise. It is designed for academic deans who need to track strategic initiatives, compare department performance, monitor faculty development, and report on institutional research output.
Dashboard Panels
Cross-Department Metrics
A comparative table showing key metrics for every department in your school: publications, active grants, total funding, graduate student count, and faculty headcount. Sort by any column to rank departments. A sparkline chart next to each metric shows the trend over the past four quarters.
Strategic Initiative Tracking
A list of school-wide strategic initiatives -- for example, an interdisciplinary research cluster, a diversity hiring program, or a new graduate certificate. Each initiative shows its current phase, responsible lead, target completion date, and progress percentage. Click an initiative to view its detailed plan and status updates.

Faculty Development
Aggregated data on faculty hiring, promotion, and retention across departments. Key figures include new hires this year, pending tenure cases, faculty departures, and the ratio of tenured to non-tenured faculty. This panel helps you identify departments that may need recruitment support or retention interventions.
Institutional Research Output
A summary of the school's total scholarly output: publications by type (journal articles, conference papers, books, patents), citation metrics, and funding awarded. Data can be filtered by department, year, or output type. Use this panel to prepare reports for provosts, boards, and accreditation bodies.
Recommended Workflows
- Quarterly department reviews -- Use Cross-Department Metrics to prepare for quarterly meetings with department chairs. Identify departments that are outperforming or underperforming relative to their peers and resources.
- Strategic initiative check-ins -- Review the Strategic Initiative Tracking panel monthly. Follow up with initiative leads whose projects are behind schedule or approaching key milestones.
- Annual reporting -- Combine data from Institutional Research Output and Faculty Development to compile the annual dean's report.

- Click any department name in Cross-Department Metrics to open a detailed breakdown equivalent to that department's Chair Dashboard view.
- Export any panel's data as a CSV or PDF by clicking the download icon in the panel header.
- Strategic initiatives can be linked to specific grants and projects in AcaTrove, allowing you to see the research outputs directly connected to each initiative.
- Use the Open AI Panel quick action to ask natural-language questions about your school's research data, such as "Which departments increased publication output this year?"
